Call for entries

The film festivals of Szolnok have more than 50-year-old tradition in our city. In 2018 the festival was renamed after Alexandre Trauner - the Hungarian born Oscar awarded production designer - to salute in front of the work of production designers.

In 2022 there are 3 competition sections advertised. In the European Feature Film Section, the organizers choose and invite the films in competition. In this category the jury remunerates the production design and designers of the films. The festival also provides opportunity for the competition of international fine art films and films made by university/college students.

Between 11-16 October 2022 we welcome production – and costume designers, fine artists, filmmakers, film professionals and students majoring in film, media and communication, fine art or production design studies. In scope of the programs, we offer film premieres, masterclasses held by well-known film professionals, round table conferences, concerts and many other cultural events.

Deadline for submission:
20 May 2022

The organizers expect film submissions in the following categories:

1. Feature Films Competition

In 2022 we invite the submission of long features produced after 1 January 2020 in which production design plays an important part. We intend to showcase 10 films in this competition category by invitation. The films in contest will be assessed by an international jury; the following aspects will be taken into consideration during the evaluation process: how much the story and the production design match, the coherence of the visual effects, the general impression of the applied visual technical elements (built sets and sets created by computer generated images (CGI). (The awards go to the best production designers).

2. Fine Art Films Competition

In the category of fine art, we are looking for the introduction of works from January 1, 2020, which are intended to present (re) interpretation of fine works of art by means of film, and the life stages of one or more artists (art groups). In this category we accept films that reveal certain trends, periods and social contexts of fine art. Last but not least, we are waiting for movies that are made using some of the tools of fine arts (eg. experimental and animated films).

3. Student Film Competition

In this section we invite films made after 1 January 2020 by film students (under the age of 30). There is no restriction concerning genre, but the maximum duration of submissions is 25 minutes.
